About me
Maria Petrocheilou has studied conference interpreting at S.S.L.M.I.T., University of Trieste. She is also a holder of a degree in French language and literature of the University of Athens. She has two Master’s degrees, one in Modern Greek studies from the Freie Universität, Berlin, and one in interpreters’ training from the Faculty of Translators and Interpreters (ETI) of the University of Geneva.
She has specialized in legal interpreting (seminar on court interpreter training by ETI, University of Geneva) and delivered speeches and lectures on court interpreting (seminar on Court Interpreting for the Hellenic Association of Sign Language Interpreters, 2011).
She has been working as a professional translator since 1996 and an interpreter since 1998 with working languages English, Italian, German and French. She has worked in Italy, Germany and Greece and currently has over 800 days of conference interpretation. Her published translations include literary works and essays (Lido Valdrè, Medicina muta, 1996; Chiara Zocchi, Olga, 1998; Philippe Delerm, Il avait plu tout le dimanche, 2000; Philippe Delerm, La première gorgée de bière et autres plaisirs minuscules, 2000).
Since 1990 she has also been active in the sector of education. From 2005 to 2011 she taught conference interpretation at the Department of Foreign Languages of Translation and Interpretation (DFLTI) of the Ionian University and in 2011 she worked as a visiting interpreters’ trainer in the framework of the Master’s Degree in Conference Interpretation of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She has also worked as a translators’ and interpreters’ trainer for different private schools in Greece.
She is currently writing her PhD thesis on the theory of interpreting.
She is an official translator (member of PEEMPIP), member of PEM, SYDISE (Hellenic Association of Conference Interpreters) and IAPTI.
